Miscarriage is a term used by specialists when referring to a loss of pregnancy that has developed until week twenty of gestation. The period will generally come back within 4 to 6 weeks after the miscarriage. Taking the basal body temperature will let the women know when ovulation occurs.

Before conceiving again, the couple should refer to a specialist in maternal-fetal medicine. This specialist will give them some advice and treatment on how to have a healthy pregnancy and avoid other miscarriages.

Pregnancy after miscarriage is a choice of the couple but especially of the mother as she is the one that feels when she is emotionally ready for a new baby. It pregnancy occurs soon after a miscarriage the mother might not fell happy about it and will not be able to enjoy her baby. Acceptance of a miscarriage is always the best thing to do and move on with the new pregnancy. Having a miscarriage does not mean there are problems with fertility and will definitely not affect the future fertility of the woman.

For example, the intravenous immunoglobulin G treatment is helpful for those cases in which the miscarriage is produced due to autoimmune factors. Sometimes having to many immune cells called natural killer cells can cause a rejection of the embryo's implantation in the uterus. This intravenous treatment is thought to block the mother's natural killer cells and help the pregnancy grow healthy.

This treatment must be followed during the first trimester of pregnancy. As the drug is given by a perfusion each session of treatment might last one or two hours. Pregnancy after miscarriage is successful in 80% of the cases that follow this treatment, but unfortunately it is expensive and not all women that have suffered recurrent miscarriages can afford it.

After having a pregnancy after miscarriage women are extra cautious and are afraid to do anything as they believe they might lose the bay again. It is true that exercising and heavy lifting are not a good idea during the first 15 weeks of pregnancy but light activities can be performed. Talking with the specialist will help the women clear her mind of cloudy thoughts and get back to a normal life.
